You can stroll through the bustling towns of Parikia and Naoussa with their picturesque streets and their welcoming cafes and tavernas or visit the many wonderful beaches with long stretches of golden sands (Golden Beach, Parasporos, Piso Alyki, Livadia, Aghia Irini, Kolymbithres, Santa Maria and Logaras to name a few) but Paros has much more to offer.
When you are tired of the main towns and beaches head to the picturesque fishing villages of Alyki, Piso Livadi, Ambelas. You can visit the Valley of the Butterflies, where as in Rhodes, thousands of butterflies (Euplagia quadripunctaria) roost in this cool wooded valley.
For those who require active pursuits there are a number of centres for Wind and Kite surfing (Pounda & Golden Beach) or there is a diving centre at Pounda.
As a more gentle pursuit there are many wonderful walks that can be taken in the cool of the evening or the cooler days of spring and autumn:
The Environmental and Cultural Park of Paros is situated on the peninsula of Agios Ioannis Detis north of Kolymbithres on the NW side of the bay of Naousa. There are many fine walks and fascinating geological structures: why not take a walk to the lighthouse and watch a wonderful sunset. The park is reached by car, taxi or by boat from Naoussa.
The Byzantines walks are the old roads that were used during the Byzantine era. The most famous starts from Lefkes and proceeds along the side of the valley and over a ridge before finally arriving at Prodromos where a cold beer and a satisfying meal can be had at the local taverna.
For a more hedonistic experience why not visit the Moraitis Winery in Naoussa. Their wine museum displays the equipment that was used to make wine and if you are lucky a video may be showing about the wine making process. And best of all you can by their excellent wines at below supermarket prices.
Thoughout the year there are many festivals. Some are religious, some celebrate historical events while others celebrate the joys of life. Events schedules can be found in the events section of parosweb.com.
